All of SPARE’s productions are led by production and creative teams. The people on each show’s teams are appointed directly by SPARE’s Board of Directors and they work together to mount a successful show. SPARE usually appoints people to the following positions for our shows:
Creative Team
Director
Music Director (usually for musicals only)
Choreographer (often for musicals only)
Costumier
Lighting and Sound Designer
Set Designer
Makeup and Hair Designer
Production Team
Producer
Technical Director
Stage Manager
House Manager
Program Designer
We try to fill as many of these positions with volunteers as we can, but sometimes we have to contract with someone for one or two of them; for instance, we often contract to pay music directors because of the unique difficulties the position presents. Sometimes, we combine certain positions; for example, if no makeup and hair designer is appointed, the costumier automatically takes over for that person.
Being on a production team is a lot of work, but past members can tell you it’s worth it when a show comes to life. All of a production team’s members are crucial to its success, and no one is more important than anyone else. We try to have our production teams appointed several months before each show so they can get to work planning successful shows early on.
If you’d like to get involved in a production team, send an e-mail to president@spareproductions.org and producer@spareproductions.org, and we’ll point you in the right direction!
